What's the best way to get into snowboarding?

So, on MLK day I went snowboarding for the first time. It was the first time I had ever been up on a mountain to snowboard. I have never been skiing. I learned how to strap in because I was with a large group from school. Next thing I know, I was goin' down the mountain. I was a fast learner. It was a lot of fun and I really want to learn but I have to wait for my liscense to be able to regularly go. I'm 15, I really like snowboarding and I want to compete in the future. How can I improve/ a program I can join to get better and learn. I live in the pacific northwest.

Buying a board...?

First, I'm glad that you enjoy snowboarding.

My advice to you: Take lessons. Have as much lessons as you can if you want to improve quickly. It is the safest way to learn from the coaches and they can guide you the right path and the right way to snowboard. If you want to enjoy the sport for the rest of your life (which can get you really addicted, by the way), take lessons.

You may want to watch some video lessons. That helps, too.

Lastly, please protect yourself as much as you can with the right protection gears especially your buttock, knees, wrists and most importantly, your head. Gear up as much as you can when you do tricks. With the proper protections, you will be able to enjoy the snowboarding for a long, long time. Have fun.

Does anyone watch curling?

if you are having problems getting to the mountain then pick up skateboarding which is the same concept, it will get you used to riding in the position and will help you to understand the concept of turning etc.you dont need a vehicle to skateboard, you can skateboard anywhere there is pavement...joining your school's ski club if they have one is also a good idea, when i was in highschool we used to go up once a week and bus transportation was provided, you dont neccessarily have to take lessons, if you have a friend that is experienced that will do, the most important thing is practice, next year try to get a season pass and get on the mountain as much as possible...good luck

What are good brands of skis for women?

some schools coordinate afterschool programs that go once week to ride. have your parents drop you off for the day, take a good book to rest a bit if you don't think you can make it through a whole day. You are getting into seasonal things a little late in the season. If its an option for you, get a season pass next winter. the best time to buy them is at the end of this season, most resorts sell their cheapest passes in the spring so that current season pass holders can buy them as the season ends for a discounted price before they even leave the mountain for the summer.
