Kevin Nash, and it was to make fun of him and Scott Hall who they also made a fake razor ramon when they left and went to WCWwell he wasn't Kane at the time. he was just a guy that they weren't using in the back. The original Diesel was Kevin Nash. I think that whole double thing was the most stupid angle the ever tried. 2 Diesel, 2 Razon Ramone and 2 Undertakers OMG that was stupid.

Well, Kane (Glen Jacobs) was actually Fake Diesel well before he was Kane.When Kevin Nash (the original Diesel) and Scott Hall (the original Razor Ramon) left the WWF for WCW, Vince McMahon decided to simply replace them with different wrestlers and basically claim they were the same character, as if wrestling fans wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Oops. Jacobs was supposed to essentially be Kevin Nash.
So then after that flopped, Jacobs was repackaged as Issac Yankem, DDS, Jerry Lawler's evil dentist. That didn't go over too well but the WWF brass still wanted to use Jacobs' talent. Therefore, he was again repackaged as Kane - and the mask and backstory was supposed to cover so that casual fans wouldn't realize that Kane was formerly a fake Kevin Nash and an evil dentist. :) After a while, those two gimmicks were a distant memory and they decided to remove his mask.
