Why did they call the old NWA tv title the "World TV title" and the WCWA belt the "WCCW World Title"?
In the 80's in the NWA they had a NWA TELEVISION WRESTLING CHAMPION yet they called it the "world tv title". Why did they do this. Why did they call the World Class Wrestling Association(WCWA) belt the "World Class Championship Wrestling(WCCW) World Champion title?? I do not udnerstand how you can call it something it isnt.
Answers:
The physical belt itself is not the title. The belt only represents the title. If the company itself wants to take a physical belt they own, no matter what it says, and claim that it now represents a specific champion, then that belt can be called that actual championshp.
The NWA TV belt was made without being called a "world" title. When Dusty Rhodes decided to book himself as the champion who got the physical belt, he wanted to have a "world" title of some kind so he decided the championship would be called the "NWA WORLD TELEVISION HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION" even though the belt doesnt have "world" on it.
Same for World Class.
The belt was made as the World Class Wrestling Association championship, but shortly after having the belt made they dropped out of the NWA and went out on their own. They called themselves after their tv show WCCW and just called the belt the WCCW World Title. They didnt want to get a new belt after just having one made, so they used what they had.
