[Feb 27 2006] Through its official website, World Wrestling Entertainment announced the "WWE Talent Wellness Program" Monday. The program features an "aggressive substance abuse and drug testing policy" and a "cardiovascular testing and monitoring program."The drug testing program will be administered by Dr. David L. Black of Aegis Sciences Corporation. Black "will be responsible for scheduling Talent for testing, administering collection of samples, coordinating secure shipment of samples to the testing facility, determining whether any WWE Talent has tested positive and directing the appropriate penalty be imposed."
WWE explained that the program will monitor the non-medical use and associate abuse of prescription medication and performance-enhancing drugs. WWE will also crack down on the use, possession and distribution of illegal drugs. Masking agents and diuretics are prohibited under the new program.
Testing will take place on both a random and reasonable suspicion basis.
The punishment guidelines were described as follows:
_1st Positive Test - 30 day suspension without pay
_2nd Positive Test - 60 day suspension without pay (and possible rehabilitation)
_3rd Positive Test - Termination from the company
Drs. Post and Feuerbach of New York Cardiology Associates P.C. will head the cardiovascular program, which will require all WWE talent to undergo an extensive stress test. Examinations and treatment will be made in accordance with the cardiovascular stress test results.
